The Clerks/Corporate Secretary (CCS) is responsible for a wide range of functions. Our staff work closely with the elected officials, other City departments, other levels of government and the general public. CCS provides secretarial, administrative, clerical and legal support at the City, including preparation of Agendas and Minutes and attendance at all meetings of Council.
CCS is responsible for the registration of all deaths in the City of Waterloo; lottery or raffle, marriage, business and other licensing functions; records management; and for processing requests made under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. CCS also conducts the municipal elections.
In addition to these traditional responsibilities, at the City of Waterloo CCS administers the subdivision of land and part-lot control process. In association with the City Solicitor, the City Clerk provides legal and procedural advice to staff; interprets legislation and regulations and assists in preparing and/or reviewing by-laws, resolutions, legal contracts and various other legal documents and agreements. |
