Trees within an urban setting bring a natural richness and unique character to city streets and parkland.
The City of Waterloo Forestry Division is responsible for managing the trees on City property, including all environmental areas and parks, trails, and along the streets. Our goal is to plant, maintain and remove trees to support and improve the urban tree canopy which delivers a wide range of economic, ecological and social benefits to all residents of The City of Waterloo.
Municipal tree services include:
- tree removal/trimming
- planting (spring and late fall)
- disease diagnosis
- pest diagnosis
- after hours emergency service (ie. tree damaged during a wind storm)
Cutting, trimming, or removal of City owned trees is a violation of City By-law #99-10, which regulates the planting and care of street trees within the City of Waterloo. The City of Waterloo has no jurisdiction on the removal or trimming of trees located on private property, however, the Region of Waterloo's Tree Cutting Bylaw is available here. You may also need to communicate with other agencies or stake holders prior to doing any work on private trees.
If you require our services, or need information about municipal trees, please call 519.747-8641 or 519-886-2310. If you are calling after hours regarding emergency tree services please call 519-579-9557.
