Mayor Dave Jaworsky was elected as mayor of the City of Waterloo in October 2014. He represents the city on Waterloo regional council as well as on a number of boards and committees.
Dave has lived in Waterloo Region since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1988. As a student, Dave was attracted to the University of Waterloo because of its strong collaboration with business and its focus on co-op programs. Later in his career, Dave joined the other side of this collaboration by contributing to the co-op partnership as an executive at BlackBerry.
In leadership roles at BlackBerry, Dave worked extensively with universities and all levels of government on a range of issues including economic development, education and taxation.
Dave has also been active as a volunteer in the community. In the past decade he has taken on a number of senior volunteer positions with a wide variety of organizations. He has a passion for youth issues and was a founding member of the FIRST Robotics Waterloo organizing committee that brought this inspirational high school competition to Waterloo.
Dave has made contributions to the community as a board or committee member of organizations such as the KW Community Foundation, the Greater KW Chamber of Commerce and KidsAbility; and as a team manager for the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association.
Dave and his wife Jan have two grown sons – Michael and Christopher.
