On the last Friday of each month, everyone is invited to explore the exciting arts, culture and cuisine of the city's core. From delicious diner specials, to exciting community events, to great music and art exhibits, each final Friday has something new to experience and showcases the amazing range of things taking place in uptown Waterloo.


Final Fridays take place the last Friday of every month. In 2017, the dates are:

Happening in Waterloo Public Square

 Tree of Light: An interactive art installation in Waterloo Public Square. Play and take a selfie where art, tech and community meet! Created by artists Laura Harrison and John Russell. Come meet the artists, enjoy some free hot chocolate, and  play with the light patterns. (7 − 9 p.m.)


Uptown Gallery

 Artist Demonstration: Artist Sophie Drouin will demonstrate Mosaic Making to promote her solo exhibit,  Picking Up the Pieces at Uptown Gallery.  (2 - 5 p.m.)

New Exhibits:  ReArt  featuring Valerie O'Flynn, Laurie Spieker and Nancy Yule.  Picking up the Pieces, featuring over 20 large framed works by multiple international award-winning mosaic artist Sophie Drouin.


Clay & Glass  Gallery

 Opening Reception: Erosion, recent works in glass by Jerre Davidson. Please join us in the foyer exhibition space at the gallery for the opening reception. The artist will be in attendance and all are welcome. (5:30  -  9 p.m. with remarks at 6 p.m.)


Bauer Café

 March Specials (11 a.m. -  11 p.m.)

   1. Spiced Maple Almond Milk Latte, made with almond milk and real maple syrup

   2. The Southwestern Comfort, a hazel and cinnamon latte

   3. Honey Hibiscus Iced Tea, with house brewed iced tea


Paint by Munzy

 Free Milkweed Seeds               

The Paint by Munzy Art Gallery is excited for Spring! In celebration of the new season we will offer FREE seed packets of Asclepias incarnata milkweed with instructions for planting. Why milkweed? Monarch caterpillars ONLY eat milkweed. Drop in on Final Fridays to pick up your seeds and happy planting. (3 - 9 p.m.)               


Button Factory Arts

 Opening Reception of Annual Members Exhibit - Colours of Art: This colourful exhibit is full of art created by Button Factory Arts members. Come out and enjoy the varied work of the artists showing off their broad range of skills.               

 Drop in open studio: The studio is open to the public for Final Fridays! Bring supplies and join other artists while you work on your ongoing artistic projects in a stimulating environment. $5 (10 a.m . - 4 p.m.)       


Relish Cooking Studio

 #Finalfridays Lupper In A Snap: March's recipe is Poached Halibut with Green Curry Sauce & Steamed Bok Choy. Demo includes generous sampling and a copy of the recipe. ONLY $25.00 + HST. Pre-register at 519-954-8772 (Noon - 1 p.m.)


Carter's Oshkosh

 Colouring Contest and Coupon: Carter's OshKosh will host a colouring contest and offer a coupon for customers to use the entire last weekend of the month.

How to get involved

  • Attend a Final Friday event;
  • If you are interested in hosting an event, having your event promoted/advertised as a Final Friday event or would like to be in touch with someone to coordinate an event, please contact the Final Fridays team or complete a participation form.
  • Participating organizations, businesses, and artists are strongly encouraged to promote Final Fridays on their website, social media, and by displaying print materials which will be delivered monthly.
  • All uptown Waterloo businesses are encouraged to help promote Final Fridays on their website, social media, and by displaying print materials which will be delivered monthly. Participants are also encouraged to advertise existing promotions or develop new ones to be featured as part of the art, culture, and cuisine theme.

This exciting community collaboration supports the city's culture plan. Place−making activities like Final Fridays spark imagination and curiosity, and establish a sense of belonging and community. This monthly event promotes the ongoing development of a strong commercial sector with an emphasis on local small business and a wide range of dining, entertainment, and culture options in uptown.
