Earth Hour

Hydro wires

The City of Waterloo will join millions of organizations and people around the world by participating in Earth Hour on March 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

We are asking the community to turn off the lights for one hour and show your commitment to fighting climate change. We power down all non-essential lighting in our facilities, where possible, during Earth Hour.

If you are interested in participating, you can register on the World Wildlife Fund Canada website. There, you will find ideas on how your family or business can make a difference.

Waterloo has had success with similar programs to Earth Hour in the past. The first year we participated in the Voluntary Blackout, we came in second place against cities across Ontario for reducing our energy use by 4.2 per cent.

Visit the environmental tips section of this website or the Waterloo North Hydro website for more ideas on how to conserve energy.
