Recreation Programs

Kids playing outdoors

The cities of Waterloo and Kitchener offer recreation programs for people with disabilities. Our boccia ball, golf clinics and youth day camps are great opportunities to get active.

Boccia ball

The Kitchener-Waterloo Boccia Club provides recreational and competitive opportunities for individuals eight years of age and older.

Boccia is an indoor game of strategy and precision, similar to lawn bowling, and a great option for people with disabilities to play, regardless of hand or arm strength.

The club meets Monday nights at the Country Hills Community Centre,  100 Rittenhouse Rd.  in Kitchener.

Visit Kitchener's website for session information.

Golf clinics

If you are a youth or adult with a disability and have an interest in golf, we offer golf clinics for beginners and those with more experience. The clinics take place in May each year. Instruction is given in putting, chipping and driving.

Our golf clinics incorporate the Solo-Rider - an assistive device that can help those who use a wheelchair, walker or have balance difficulties and need to golf from a seated position.

The K-W Golf Committee has just purchased a brand new accessible golf cart that is currently available at the Doon Valley Golf course. The "Solo Rider" golf cart is available to golfers of all ages who require a stable and comfortable way to enjoy the game of golf. Experience the smoothest ride in golf and continue to enjoy the game of a lifetime. To enable golfers to continue to enjoy the game of golf, the SoloRider difference is a golf cart that you can:

  • drive onto greens and tees with no impact to turf,
  • drive over rough terrain with confidence,
  • easily enter and exit using the 350 degree swivel seat,
  • play from using the elevating seat, and
  • easily handle with the ergonomic controls.

Once you have received training on the Solo-Rider, you can book it for a round of golf at Doon Valley golf courses. Reservations must be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance by calling the golf course directly.

Visit Kitchener's website for registration information.

It's All About Youth day camp

Summer camp is a special experience that every child should have the opportunity to take part in. Our goal is to make that happen through our It's All About Youth day camp, designed for youth aged 13-17 with disabilities.

Participants help counsellors plan activities, ranging from sports, swimming, crafts, cooking and more.

Visit Kitchener's website for registration information.
