Friendly reminder about Waterloo outdoor amenities and what's available for use

The province has opened some park and outdoor space amenities with physical distancing protocols.  To keep everyone safe, it is important that all of us maintain physical distancing requirements. The following list provides additional information to help users understand what is open and what is not open in Waterloo, and how to use the outdoor park facilities that are open. We appreciate residents’ understanding and diligence in maintaining physical distancing requirements.

 

Sports fields

  • Have received basic grass cutting only
  • Are not groomed/line and not playable
  • Closed to all play (includes baseball, soccer and cricket)
  • Premium sports fields that are gated, remain closed at this time (ex. Bechtel Diamond, Waterloo Park Diamonds 1 & 2 and RIM Park Artificial Fields)
  • Other fields are open for passive use only (ex. Frisbee, catch, etc. between members of family who live in same household) 
  • Security staff will be on site to assist with messaging and public education as needed


Skate park

  • Opened on May 21, 2020 with physical distancing protocols
  • Please use respectfully and wait if needed based on occupancy

 

Outdoor tennis, pickleball and basketball courts

  • Opened on May 19, 2020 with physical distancing protocols
  • Due to physical distancing requirements, traditional basketball games not allowed at this time
  • Please use respectfully and wait if needed based on occupancy

 

Bechtel Dog Park

  • Opened on May 19, 2020 with physical distancing protocols
  • Please use respectfully and avoid gathering
  • Washrooms at Manulife Centre are not open. 

 

Picnic shelters & benches

  • Opened on May 19, 2020 with physical distancing protocols
  • Picnic areas are not open for regular permitting or events
  • Spaces are open for passive use only for members of the same household
  • Please note these areas are not being cleaned or disinfected and users should take standard COVID-19 precautions when using  

 

Playgrounds, washrooms and splash pads
