Playgrounds closed across the region to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

In an effort to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19, the regional municipalities are taking steps to close our outdoor playgrounds and skateboard parks. We recognize that parents and caregivers are looking for outdoor activities to keep their children occupied; however, because the virus can remain active on many surfaces, staff cannot effectively clean and disinfect the multiple surfaces and play structures located throughout the region. Public health is also strongly urging everyone to practice social distancing. Therefore, beginning today municipal staff will post signs indicating municipal playgrounds throughout the region are closed – this will impact approximately close to 400 locations. We are asking parents, caregivers and children to follow this direction until the closure is lifted. Parks, trails and open space remain open and the community is encouraged to practice social distancing protocols while enjoying these outdoor spaces.
