Mayor McCabe announces launch of Community Conversations
During the 2023 State of the City, Mayor Dorothy McCabe announced the launch of a new initiative, Community Conversations.
As part of the implementation of the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, Community Conversations will be an opportunity for staff, Council and community members to collaborate and bring the plan to life.
“I believe one of my key roles as Mayor is to be a connector and to bring people together,” says Mayor McCabe. “These purposeful conversations will bring together fresh perspectives and diverse voices to further unlock the potential of Waterloo.”
The draft strategic plan is available on Engage Waterloo and as part of the Council packet for May 8. The public comment period is open until May 29 and the plan will be finalized in June.
During the event, Mayor McCabe also highlighted the ongoing work with local developers and partners to build more affordable and attainable housing; the city’s new affordable housing strategy; the city’s efforts to address the climate crisis; and its commitment to reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion.
The State of the City was hosted by Rotary Waterloo, and began with Joe and Stephanie Mancini being awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Mayor McCabe was also joined by the Grade 5 winners of the Council for a Day contest, who shared their ideas for making life better in Waterloo.
Proceeds from the event were in support of The Working Centre.
