Red Dress Day

Posted On Monday May 05, 2025

Red Dress Day was inspired by Métis artist Jamie Black’s REDress Project installation where she hung empty, red dresses to represent missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people.

Today and every day, we hold in our thoughts the families and communities who carry the weight and grief of losing loved ones.

As a city, we re-commit ourselves to disrupting and dismantling the systemic and patriarchal systems that perpetuate this violence. We continue the work of Reconciliation so that Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people can experience the dignity, respect and safety they deserve.
