Lumen set to go for 2020 with Lumen Lite

Posted On Monday September 14, 2020

The City of Waterloo’s festival of light, art, and technology will take place later this month as Lumen Lite, an adapted version of the original event with physical distancing protocols in place.

This year’s festival will be a smaller scale event with installations taking place outdoors only. “There have been numerous changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and we’re shifting our events into new formats accordingly,” says Justin McFadden, executive director of economic development for the City of Waterloo. “This year’s Lumen artists have truly demonstrated their creativity and artistic talent by creating pieces that will get the community thinking about public spaces in new ways. Producing Lumen Lite lets us support our talented artistic community in a safe, outdoor environment.”

Lumen Lite will take place Saturday, September 26 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. in different locations of uptown Waterloo. The festival will feature 10+ art installations from locally and internationally renowned artists. The 2020 festival provides an opportunity for artists to safely showcase their work and for the community to gather in a new way.

The City of Waterloo is working closely with Region of Waterloo Public Health to ensure the event abides by public safety protocols, including COVID-19 physical distancing procedures. Attendees are required to wear masks to participate and physical-distancing measures will be in place for all installations.

Lumen is delivered by Create Waterloo, the City of Waterloo’s arts and culture unit. The festival is supported by a variety of sponsors, partners, collaborators, artists, organizations and volunteers.

Event details will be released shortly. For more information, visit the Lumen webpage.
