Rosh Hashana
Posted On Wednesday October 02, 2024
Tonight and in the days to come, Rosh Hashana will be observed by Jewish communities in Waterloo and around the world.
Also known as the Jewish New Year, it is a time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next. Communities gather for services marked by the blowing of the shofar or ram’s horn. Candles are lit as families and friends join together for festive meals that include challah, apples and honey to signify the hope for a sweet year. Rosh Hashana marks the beginning of the High Holidays, ending with Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) which comes to a close this year on October 12.
Shanah tovah! Good year!
