City of Waterloo encourages residents to celebrate safely while using fireworks
In Waterloo, residents can set off recreational fireworks from dusk until 11 p.m. on Lunar New Year, Victoria Day, Canada Day and Diwali/Deepavali.
Fireworks will be permitted on January 29, 2025, from dusk until 11 p.m. for Lunar New Year. They must be used on private property and not in public spaces such as schools or parks, and should only be handled by adults aged 18 years and older.
The City encourages residents to be mindful of how fireworks can impact neighbours and wildlife. If planning to use fireworks, consider notifying neighbours in advance, as the noise can disturb pets, children, those with different work schedules or individuals sensitive to loud sounds. Avoid setting off fireworks near water systems or in areas where wildlife live, as fireworks contain chemicals that can harm the environment and animals.
To report fireworks being used outside of the permitted times or for excessive noise complaints, call 519-747-8785. In the event of an emergency or dangerous situation, call 911.
