City of Waterloo hosts 30th free family fun day at its Service Centre Open House

Posted On Wednesday May 21, 2025

The annual Service Centre Open House, a free family-friendly event that offers a behind-the-scenes look at city operations, is celebrating its 30th anniversary on June 7, 2025.

Annually, over 3,000 visitors come to explore city machines and equipment while meeting the staff who operate them.

The event will include:

  • Equipment rides on dump trucks, diggers and excavators.
  • Face painting, games and other family-friendly activities.
  • Charity barbecue (cash only) with proceeds supporting Food4Kids Waterloo Region.

The Service Centre Open House is an annual event held around National Public Works Week to shine a light on the municipal staff who contribute to everyday life in our community. Whether through fixing roads, taking care of trees, or maintaining trails and city spaces, public works staff keep our city running smoothly, safely and beautifully.

“This event is always a highlight for families in Waterloo,” shares Mayor Dorothy McCabe. “It’s a great opportunity to learn more about city operations, public works and the hardworking people taking care of our community.”
