Council approves funding for Alexandra Park 

Council has unanimously approved $750,000 for the expansion of Alexandra Park. The city had purchased two properties in 2017 to expand the popular neighbourhood park. The new funding will create additional recreational space and associated amenities to service the growth in the neighbourhood. The new park design was guided by ideas received through public consultation opportunities throughout the project. 

City supports arts, culture and sports groups through its cash grants program

The city is awarding a total of $100,000 in cash grants to a variety of community initiatives. The money will support 41 different organizations with operating and project funding, covering arts & culture, festivals and events, sports, recreation and neighbourhood. Grant applications were reviewed by the Community Grants Committee.

Major reconstruction for Longfellow Drive

As part of Council’s ongoing to commitment to urban renewal projects and reinvestment in its public infrastructure, Council has approved a much-needed reconstruction for Longfellow Drive, from Westmount Road to Shakespeare Drive. The project includes replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer, watermain, curb and gutter, asphalt and related infrastructure and a sidewalk. The underground infrastructure is approximately 50 years old and is showing its age. The $2.2 million contract has been awarded to Navacon Construction Inc. This road project is underpinned by the City’s Asset Management Plan that is being used to track the condition, costs and life cycle of Waterloo’s 397 km road network.
