Coun. Mark Whaley is a lifetime resident of Waterloo who has lived in the heart of the city in Ward 5 for the past 25 years with his wife Charlotte.

Mark is a multi-award winning social and environmental activist, including the Waterloo Award (local), the June Callwood Award for Outstanding Volunteerism (provincial) and the Canadian Urban Leadership Award (national). As well, he was a driving force in Waterloo receiving global recognition through the Intelligent Community movement and Livable Communities competitions.

He is the founder of the 10,000 Trees Project, an initiative with a goal of planting 10,000 trees in Waterloo for 10 years, and he was the initiator of the historic clock tower restoration in uptown Waterloo.
