Heritage features in Waterloo

The City of Waterloo has a rich history, dating to settler Abraham Erb's arrival in an ox-driven wagon from Pennsylvania back in the early 1800s. He laid the foundation for what is now one of the world's Intelligent Communities.

To experience our heritage first-hand, visit displays year-round at the City of Waterloo Museum. Or enjoy a historical walking tour that features a multitude of heritage properties and a heritage conservation district.

We encourage you to visit our virtual museums to learn more about Waterloo's interesting history, including the Seagram Plant, Elam Martin Farmstead and more.

You can also read the biographies of our early mayors and elected officials, who have guided the direction of this city.

Learn more about our architectural and cultural heritage through Foundations, a newsletter that shares information about our unique historic people and places - from the familiar landmarks to the untold stories of our neighbourhoods and their inhabitants.

Please contact us if you have an interesting story, photo or object you would like to share with Michelle Lee our heritage planner.
