There are many volunteer opportunities with the City of Waterloo to fit your interests, talent and schedule. Volunteers are vital to our special events, seniors programs and services, heritage services, environmental events, aquatics and more.

Position Day and time Description
Event helpers for Solstice Sampling Sat June 16, various shifts Meet others in the community while having fun! Assist with delivering this event where patrons sample delicious culinary creations served up by local eateries in UpTown Waterloo.  Join our team of event helper volunteers who assist with set-up, tear-down or customer service. Set-up and tear-down involves lifting up to 30 pounds, workboots are  recommended and volunteers must be age 16+.  Customer Service Shifts require closed shoes and must be age 14+. Event Helpers for Open Streets

Sundays, June 17, July 15, August 19 and September 16

Help deliver Open Streets, a day of play in UpTown Waterloo with four themes: lego, cosplay, music and competition.  Join our team of event helper volunteers who provide customer service, set-up or tear-down.  Volunteers can help with any of the event days or choose them all!  Set-up and tear-down involves lifting up to 30 pounds, workboots are recommended and volunteers must be age 16+.  Customer Service Shifts require closed shoes and must be age 16+.  Apply and sign up for shifts online.

Office Volunteers, Waterloo Home Support

Thu or Fri 11a.m. to 2p.m.

Seeking experienced office volunteer with excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to read, process and understand written English.  Make confirmation calls for senior's transportation program, answer incoming calls, transfer calls, take messages, record ride requests and perform clerical tasks.  Contact volunteer services or apply online. 

Lunch server for senior's lunch program

Wed 11:45a.m. to 1:15p.m.

Share your lunch break with local seniors!  Set tables, serve lunch, enjoy lunch with seniors then help with clean-up afterward.  Your lunch is provided.  Contact volunteer services or apply online.

Kitchen helper for senior's lunch program

 Thu 8:30a.m. to 1:30p.m.

Seeking adult volunteer with kitchen experience and great communication skills to assist with a lunch program for seniors at the Adult Rec. Centre.  Assist cook with food preparation, set tables, serve lunch and clear tables. Contact volunteer services or apply online.

Aquatics volunteers

Evening or weekend as scheduled

Assist with Aquatics programs.  Must be age 14+ and hold current Bronze Medallion or Bronze Cross and CPR.  Contact volunteer services for a detailed position description or apply online.   

Shopper escort volunteers

Weekdays, daytime

In as little as 2 hours per week you can assist a Waterloo Senior maintain their independence. Take a Waterloo senior grocery shopping in your car, then help put groceries away.  Must be 25+, have a reliable vehicle, safe driving record and a G license.  Mileage reimbursed.  Contact volunteer services for a detailed position description or apply online

Drivers for senior outing day program 

Minimum one shift per week for about one hour, morning or afternoon.

Just one hour in the morning or afternoon at least once per week can make a difference to local seniors! Provide a ride in your own vehicle to or from the Senior Outing Day Program at the Adult Rec. Centre. Must be 25+, have a reliable vehicle, safe driving record and a G license. Mileage reimbursed. Shifts currently available are Mon afternoon, Tue afternoon, Wed afternoon, Thu morning or Fri morning.  Contact volunteer services or apply online.

Activity assistants, senior outing day program Mon, Thu or Fri afternoon 1:00p.m. to 3:30p.m.

Assist with planned activities, prepare tea and coffee and visit with Waterloo seniors at the Adult Rec. Centre.  Must be friendly and reliable, able to accept direction and have excellent communication skills.  Apply online.

Waterloo home support: drivers for seniors Weekday shifts as scheduled 

Help a local senior remain independent by driving them to appointments in town in your vehicle. Must be 25+, have a valid G licence, reliable vehicle and a safe driving record.  Mileage reimbursed.

 

Also seeking a long distance driver for rides to Toronto, London, Hamilton, etc.
