Garbage, Recycling and Composting

A recycling bin and garbage pail by a curb

The Region of Waterloo manages residential collection for green-bin organics, blue-box recycling, garbage, appliance and bulky items, and seasonal yard-waste collection. Regular collection runs on all statutory holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

See information about the City of Waterloo's leaf collection program.

See information about safe needle disposal.

Pet waste

Pet waste, including bedding, droppings, cat litter must be bagged in a compostable bag or wrapped in paper and should be disposed in the green bin. Dog waste can be dropped in a dog waste recycling container located at these parks:

  • St. Moritz Park
  • Bechtel Park
  • Lakeshore Optimist Park

Household waste

Household waste should not be dropped in public trash cans. Household waste is personal waste and should be disposed of following your scheduled garbage collection day.
