Leash-free Area

The City of Waterloo runs a leash-free dog area in Bechtel Park where your dog can run free in a two-hectare (five-acre) fenced space. The dog park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. We may close it at any time without notice.

Bechtel Park is located near the intersection of Bridge Street and University Avenue East at 185 Bridge St. W. From the entrance, follow the road to the left, past the tennis courts, to get to the leash-free area.

Here is a list of rules for using the leash-free dog park:

  • Take off your dog's leash as you enter the leash-free area
  • Do not bring food or toys
  • Leave puppies younger than four months, and aggressive and ill dogs at home (including dogs in heat)
  • Dogs older than seven months must be spayed or neutered
  • Kids under the age of 12 must come with an adult
  • Pick up dog waste and throw it out in the containers by the parking lot
  • Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated
  • Stay close to your dogs so that you can control them

Here is a video with tips on how to have fun and stay safe in the park.
