A Visit From Space with Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Jeremy Hansen
The City of Waterloo Museum is thrilled to announce a visit from Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen on July 23, 2022. Hansen’s visit coincides with the museum’s current exhibition Health in Space: Daring to Explore. The day will also include a STEAM in Space vendor fair with hands-on activities, crafts and information related to life in space. You will not want to miss hearing Jeremy speak about his career and space exploration, beginning at 2:00 p.m. inside the Sun Life Financial Arena with Mayor Dave Jaworsky. Free admission to the whole event and talks.

![]() Curious how space vehicles dock onto the International Space Station? Join us for a short activity that simulates how astronauts communicate to both Earth and the ISS. Hint: It takes a lot of teamwork, concentration and some physical stamina. Are you ready for this challenge? Indus Space serves to educate and interest youth in STEM focused programs and careers to build the next generation of Canadian STEM leaders. Their high-quality and innovative programming will be great for the whole family to dive into exploring space. |

![]() The University of Guelph's Controlled Environment Systems Research Facility is known for its work in controlled environment agriculture to grow food in harsh environments (e.g., Canada's North). Visit them to find out more about their work on supporting astronauts' food requirements for long-duration space missions. Throughout the day, they will provide demonstrations of the effects of atmospheric pressure using a simple scientific experiment for the whole family to enjoy. |
University of Waterloo's Gustav Bakos Observatory and Grad Student's Research |
The University of Waterloo will be showing up big with the Gustav Bakos Observatory Parabolic Mini Golf and Hockey Stick Telescope. Want to give them a try? They will also be joined by a variety of graduate students from the Physics and Astronomy department. These students will be sharing information on their research and programs at the university. |
Transportation
There are numerous parking lots around UpTown Waterloo which can be used for parking. See the map for locations and walking distance to the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. Please note the parking lots around the Complex will be one-way traffic. The entrance will be on the eastern side by the Barrel Yards rental community with the exit on the western side by the Pavilion and Luther Village.
