Fog Nozzle

around 1940

Here’s a nifty fire fighting invention. A fog nozzle works by breaking up the water flowing through it into tiny water droplets. These broken up droplets create more surface area than a solid stream of water. The droplets absorb the heat of the fire, turn into steam, and displace the oxygen. With no oxygen, the fire is smothered and quickly extinguished. The Fog Nozzle Company in the U.S.A. manufactured this unique piece of firefighting equipment used by the Waterloo Fire Department.
