Rummers around
1820 to 1830
These goblets look more like fancy ice cream dishes than drinking glasses. A rummer is a specially designed glass for serving a hot toddy, a heated mixture of a spirit (like rum), water, sugar, and spices. Its thicker glass will not shatter with a hot drink inside. Rummer glasses combine a large bowl on a short stem and small foot. The rummer’s bowl surface is perfectly suited for simple wide flute details or engraved designs.
