How To Calculate Your Property Tax Bill

On your tax bill you will find your property tax class and the assessed valuation for your home. The tax class determines the tax rate and which school board your taxes will support. To determine the total dollars you will pay in property taxes to each level of government and to your school board take your assessed valuation and multiple by the tax rate.

Review your property valuation and tax class

In this sample tax bill we have a residential taxable english public school supporter with a tax class “RTEP” and a home assessed at $200,000.

The taxes payable are as follows:

For the City of Waterloo                          $200,000 X .393400% = $  786.80

For the Region of Waterloo                     $200,000 X .639842% = $1,279.68

For the School Boards                             $200,000  x .296000% = $  592.00

The Total Tax Bill for this Example is                                        $2,658.48
