The City of Waterloo has an extensive trail network that takes you through our uptown core, parks, natural areas, woodlands, creek corridors, neighbourhoods and more.
With more than 150 kilometres (93 miles) of off-road multi-use trails and 60 kilometres (37 miles) of on-road cycling lanes, our trails have a variety of uses, from cycling to work to going for a walk with your kids. Please keep trail etiquette in mind when using them.
Use this handy guide to find trails near you. Or take a virtual tour of our trails - use the "identify" tool to view panoramic images of various trail locations in different seasons.
We have installed trail counters at several points along our trail network. Data from 2015 shows a large and increasing use of our trails at these locations, with over 775,000 trips over the course of the year. Visit our open data site for frequently updated data sets.
We are working to enhance our trail system through our active transportation program, which includes new trails, rehabilitation of existing ones, bike rack installations and replacements, and pedestrian refuge island installations.
A number of strategic documents, including our transportation master plan, guide our decision-making in this area. We also have an advisory committee on active transportation.
