Open Streets are global community street festivals inspired by the Central and South Americas ciclovias and Seattle's Car Free Sundays.
There are over 100 initiatives in North America alone, including Hamilton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Chicago, New York City and San Francisco.
Open Streets are all about the livable cities movement! These community events promote walking, dancing, playing and socializing.
You're invited to enjoy live music, art and activities, community groups, businesses and eateries. Local vendors, artists, not-for-profit organizations, and other performers gain the opportunity to share their product and services.
2017 Open Streets dates:
- June 18
- July 16
- Aug. 20
- Sept. 17
Each event runs from noon - 5 p.m.,
New format - still awesome
We're changing the format of Open Streets for 2017. Due to all of the construction taking place in and around uptown Waterloo we are unable to close any streets this year. Because of this, Open Streets will be taking place along the Laurel and Spurline Trails in uptown Waterloo this year.
There will be five distinct nodes of activity along the trail system during each of the four dates. Stay tuned for a detailed description of all of the exciting programming we have planned.
