Crown Royal Extra Rare (XR) Heritage Blend Whisky Bottle
2007
This bottle is possibly the rarest in the City of Waterloo Museum’s collection. It is one of four Crown Royal Extra XR Rare Heritage Blend bottles ever produced. The blend was created to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 5th, 2007. She was presented with one of the bottles at the Derby.
The bottle was hand-blown by master glass designer Casey Hyland at The Glassworks in Louisville and is etched with 24K gold. The whisky, too, is rare as it was some of the last surviving stocks of whisky produced at the Waterloo distillery before it closed in 1990. Master Whisky Blender Andrew MacKay selected the rarest remaining barrels of whisky in Waterloo with some of the highest rye contents to produce the blend.
