Seagram's King Arthur Gin Bottle

1936 to 1983

While many people know the Seagram Company for their famous whisky brands, less well-known are the other alcohols they produced. Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Limited registered King Arthur Gin in 1936. The first run of labels featured a red, yellow, and gold design and the crest of the Governor General at the time, Lord Tweedsmuir.

While the brand’s history remains unclear, it is presumed sales in the U.S. stopped in 1942 and production ceased during the 1950s. The brand was subsequently rereleased in 1970, with the first bottling run at the Waterloo Plant taking place in July of that year. On October 24, 1983, a new label was approved, which removed J. E. Seagram’s name in place of “Canadian Distillers LTD. Montreal, Toronto, Canada”.
