Film in Waterloo
We can help with your film and television production, including finding locations, applying for permits and following local bylaws.
On this page:
Apply for a film permit
You need a film permit if your production uses or affects public property.
A permit is required if your filming involves:
- filming on a city street, sidewalk, trail, park, or facility
- blocking traffic, sidewalks or public access
- using public property for parking, traffic control or large equipment
- involving road closures, special effects or drone footage
Apply early:
- email sonya.poweska@waterloo.ca or call 519-747-8769
- apply at least 15 business days before filming – allow more time for road closures, special effects or drones
Filming on private property
If you're filming on private property, local bylaws may still apply. Contact us to confirm what approvals you need.
