Permanent collection
The city's permanent collection features 22 pieces that present an array of community narratives from renowned artists.
Temporary collection
The city’s temporary collection includes a variety of art walks, exhibits, murals and more. Make sure to check them out before they’re gone.
Our public art policy
We are committed to building a site specific public art collection through public commissions, donations, and by the encouraging the inclusion of art in development projects.
Our Public Art Policy (PDF) outlines the development, management and stewardship of our collection. Its goals include:
- make Waterloo a more welcoming and attractive city
- add landmarks and gathering places
- support the growth of arts and arts-related businesses
- reflect Waterloo’s changing identity
- give all residents better access to art
- encourage excellence, quality, and innovation
Temporary installations
We may accept temporary works for display on city-owned property through art loan agreements. Installations can last from 1 day to 1 year. Most stay 3 to 6 months.
We review proposals for:
- safety
- durability
- fit with the site
Following approval, the artist or sponsoring group signs a loan agreement with the city. Temporary public art is different from event-based installations – those run only during the event.
