June has been designated as bike month. In Waterloo, we have a lot of activities planned to encourage residents to use their bicycles. Check out the activities and events happening throughout the month. Westvale Waterloo Optimist Club Bike RodeoHoly Rosary Catholic School 485 Thorndale Ave., Waterloo No sign up is required, but participants need a working bicycle and a helmet. There will be helmet fitting and King Street Cycle will be there to perform bicycle safety checks.

5th Annual Cycle for AngelsA family friendly three-km bike ride, starting at Kitchener City Hall, to celebrate cycling, promote "sharing the road" and remember those hurt or killed while cycling locally. The event is led by members of Waterloo Regional Police Services and begins at 2 p.m. in front of Kitchener City Hall. The ride is free, but riders are asked to wear a helmet and a white shirt. |

Bright On!City of Waterloo staff will have a pop-up booth in uptown Waterloo where staff will teach residents about proper lighting for bikes and there will be free bike lights given to all cyclists.

Cycle to School DayAll City of Waterloo high school students are encouraged to ride their bicycles to class that day. Prizes will be offered all day to students including bells, lights and maps.

Open Streets - bicycle education centreWaterloo City Centre, 100 Regina St. S., Waterloo A bicycle education centre will be operating where residents can get a helmet fitting, learn to fix a tire, hone skills in a cycling course, or just pick up a free bike bell or light. Open Streets will also have bicycles powering music, a blender and a multi-seat bike float to tour the festivities. Look for the whimsical wandering bicycle!

Bright On! - Wilfrid Laurier University Bike BreakfastLazaridis School of Business and Economics 64 University Ave. West, Waterloo A bike breakfast is planned with the Region of Waterloo's Travelwise team and City of Waterloo staff will be there with a bike light give-away booth.

Bright On! - Celebrating University of Waterloo's Bike DayCity of Waterloo will have a pop-up booth on campus to teach students and faculty about proper lighting for bicycles. They will be giving away free bike lights to cyclists.

CAN-BIKEWaterloo Memorial Recreation Complex Cycling Canada's CAN-BIKE program is a series of courses on all aspects of cycling safety and enjoyment on the road.
