Cemetery Tour- Symbols Carved in Stone

Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets - $3 per a person

Have you ever been in a cemetery and seen a unique grave stone or design that caught your eye? Well, we have been noticing some interesting ones in Mount Hope Cemetery which got us thinking- what does that even mean? If you also want to know what has inspired some of the images, designs and gravestones of Waterloo’s past residences, then book your spot on the tour today!

Art History Walking Tour 

Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m.

Tis the Year of Public Art in Waterloo! So we are lacing up our walking shoes and heading out for a  history art tour of the Uptown Core. If you have ever wanted to know more about the artist or the art pieces around Waterloo, this is your chance! As part of the Year of Public Art, the City of Waterloo Museum and Arts & Culture staffs have joined up for an Uptown Waterloo Art walking tour. This tour will include stories of where and what some of Waterloo Public Art pieces are all about. Don’t miss this rare chance to find out the story behind the objects.

History on Wheels: New Bikers Tour

Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. Tickets - $3 per a person

We are back with our historical biking tours! Join us in June for our Bike Month programming. We will be collaborating with Active Transportation and Cycle into the Future to bring you two biking tours for both new-to-biking and experienced cyclists. 

This biking tour is great for families, newer cyclists and those who enjoy shorter rides. The tour will include some bike safety to ensure all participants are ready for our adventure. Then we will head out on trails and paths to explore Waterloo and discover some locations where historic events happened. The tour will include hands on components and breaks along the 1.5 hour route. Note all participants must be wear a helmet and be able to ride a two wheeled bike with little assistance.

Amazing Race: Rum Runners Edition

Thursday, June 16 at 6:30pm - 8:30pm

There's talk in town about bootleggers and speakeasies and you and your team must make sure that these rumors and locations don't get discovered. Solve clues, and find hidden stashes as you unlock the secret stories of the prohibition era in Uptown Waterloo.

Meet at the Main Library where you will receive your instructions. Your team will need a cell phone to send and receive updates as the night unfolds.  Please register one person per team.

This event is presented in partnership with the Waterloo Public Library.

History on Wheels: Experiences Cyclists

Sunday, June 19 at 3 p.m. Tickets - $3 per a person

We are back with our historical biking tours! Join us in June for our Bike Month programming. We will be collaborating with Active Transportation and Cycle into the Future to bring you two biking tours for both new-to-biking and experienced cyclists. 

For this tour, we will discover Waterloo from the paths, trails and roadways. Join us as we bike around town and visit some of the historic spots in Waterloo. This two-hour tour will include biking on roads and along side, motor vehicles and all participants must wear a helmet.

Pop- Up Museum Log Schoolhouse

Friday, July 15, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Log Schoolhouse has been a feature in Waterloo Park since the 1890s, but it has been a round a lot longer than that!  Pack a picnic and come to the park where the City of Waterloo Museum and Built Heritage will explore the many people who have worked, lived and enjoyed the Log Schoolhouse.  You won’t want to miss these special displays and activities for the whole family. 

Pop-Up Museum Abraham Erb’s Gristmill 

Saturday, July 16, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

We are excited to bring you sneak peek into Erb Grist Mill on Silver Lake. The City of Waterloo Museum and Built Heritage staffs have collaborated to open the replica Abraham Erb’s Grist Mill this summer. Join us for crafts, stories and so much more. Historian Peggy Pellet will join us and share stories about  Black History connections to the early days of what became Waterloo. So meet us at the mill to find out more.
