Snow event and parking ban
When heavy snow or ice is expected, we declare a snow event.
You can't park on city streets during a snow event. This helps crews plow safely and quickly.

Move your car off the street
You can't park on city streets during a snow event. Overnight parking exemptions don’t apply.
During a snow event:
- cars left on the road may be ticketed or towed
- crews aim to clear all streets within 24 hours — learn how we clear snow
- track progress on the snow plow map
- don’t push snow from driveways or parking lots onto the road
Most snow events last about 24 hours, but may last longer if snow or ice continues.
Stay informed
When conditions improve, we’ll post updates here to confirm when the parking ban ends.
Stay up to date when winter weather hits:

Significant weather events
We declare a significant weather event when severe conditions makes roads or sidewalks unsafe.
This can include:
- heavy snowfall – 20 cm or more in 24 hours
- ice buildup – 20 mm or more
- strong winds over 60 km/h
During a significant weather event:
- parking is banned on all city streets during a snow event
- snow clearing may take longer than usual
- residents should avoid unnecessary travel
Crews focus first on main roads and transit routes for emergency access, then clear residential areas.
