Join a community planting event

Help plant native wildflowers, shrubs and trees in local parks and natural areas. Activities may also include weeding and other stewardship work.

Join seasonal planting and stewardship activities with the Pollinator Working Group. Learn about native pollinators and take home native seeds or plants.

Join a planting activity

Meadow maintenance at Bechtel Park

Help plant and maintain wildflowers, grow native plants and remove invasive buckthorn:

  • June 4 from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • July 2 from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • August 6 from 6 to 8 p.m.
  • September 3 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Community planting in natural areas

Help plant native wildflowers in the fall:

  • September 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at RIM Park
  • September 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. at Bechtel Park
  • October 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Bechtel Park

Event information

Activities are open to individuals, families and small groups.

A parent or guardian must sign a consent form and supervise anyone under 18 in their care.

Bechtel Park Wildflower Plot

In Bechtel Park, go to the tennis court parking lot and cross the park road to the trail leading up the hill to the southeast corner.

You can also access the project area from the Bridgeport Public School.

We will cancel or reschedule activities if there is risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain or high winds. 

If you sign up in advance, we will email you if we cancel an activity.

What to bring:

  • closed-toe footwear
  • long pants and clothing suitable for natural areas
  • your own water

The city provides cloth gloves, all hand tools and a snack.

Physical activity may include:

  • bending, digging and lifting up to 20 lbs
  • pushing wheelbarrows
  • trimming with hand pruners or loppers
  • walking on uneven terrain and long grass in natural areas

Activities are open to individuals, families and small groups:

  • geared for participants ages 14 and up
  • younger children can help with suitable tasks with supervision
  • the city gives an orientation, and leads and monitors the activity

A parent or guardian must sign a consent form and supervise anyone under 18 in their care.
