Become a NORC Ambassador

Help bring people together and support older adults in your building.

A NORC ambassador is a resident who helps connect neighbours and organize activities where they live.

What ambassadors do

As a NORC ambassador, you:

  • connect neighbours in your building
  • organize activities for older adults
  • share information about local services
  • act as a link between residents and the city

You do not need experience. The neighbourhoods team will support you.

Example activities

Activities depend on what people in your building want.

Examples include:

  • coffee meetups, shared meals or floor parties 
  • walking groups or fitness classes such as chair yoga, exercise classes and fall prevention
  • book clubs, movie nights, or seasonal choirs
  • workshops on health or safety topics such as cyber safety, advance care planning, and elder abuse prevention

Why become an ambassador

As a NORC ambassador, you can:

  • help older adults stay connected and active
  • build a stronger community in your building
  • meet neighbours and develop new skills
  • access support and resources from the city

How to get started

To become a NORC ambassador:

  1. Check if your building is a NORC.
  2. Talk to neighbours who may be interested.
  3. Contact the neighbourhoods team.
  4. Complete an application form.
  5. Attend an orientation session.

Get support from the city

The neighbourhoods team supports NORC ambassadors.

They can help you:

  • plan and promote activities
  • connect with other ambassadors
  • access funding and resources
