Start with a small group
A NORC team is a small group of neighbours who work together. It's important not do it alone.
To build your team:
- aim for a small group of 3-5 people to start
- invite neighbours who are interested
- include people with different skills and backgrounds
- choose people who can share tasks and keep things moving
Starting small makes it easier to share the work and stay organized.
Get neighbours involved
Build interest and invite others to join:
- talk to neighbours in person
- host a small meeting to share ideas and gather feedback
- post flyers in your building to explain your group and invite others
- use phone, email or a messaging app, with neighbours' permission, to stay connected
Agree on how your team will work
Once your group forms, agree on a few basics:
- who will take on roles or tasks
- how you will communicate
- when you will meet
- group name and goals
Keep things simple and adjust as your group grows.
Plan activities together
Your team can plan activities based on what people want.
Start by:
- sharing ideas and gather feedback
- choosing a few activities to begin with
- keep plans simple and flexible
A few simple activities are a good way to begin. Check out ideas on the NORC Innovation Centre idea bank website.
Share updates with your building
Keep neighbours informed and invite them to join:
- post flyers in common areas
- send emails or newsletters
- use social media or group chats
Clear communication helps more people take part.
