Why become a neighbourhood connector

Make a difference close to home and help neighbours feel included.

As a connector, you can:

  • bring neighbours together
  • support neighbours and one another
  • get support and advice from the city
  • learn new skills and share ideas
  • apply for mini-grants to support your projects (up to 3 times a year)

What connectors do

You'll work with neighbours and city staff to:

  • share information about neighbourhood programs and events
  • plan 1 or more neighbourhood activities each year
  • meet with other connectors to learn and share experiences

Read the How to become a neighbourhood connector guide.

Who can apply

Anyone who lives in Waterloo can apply.

City staff will help you choose the area to focus on. This could be your street, part of your neighbourhood, or a multi-unit building such as an apartment, condominium or townhouse complex.

Resources and support

We’ll help you plan and run activities with:

  • how-to guides with planning tips
  • idea lists for events, projects and programs
  • welcome postcards to introduce yourself to neighbours

Email neighbourhoods@waterloo.ca to get started.

Recent connector projects

Waterloo connectors are helping to build connections across the city:

  • Lincoln Heights – connectors hosted a neighbourhood Halloween event at their local park with games and activities
  • Lakeshore North – connectors organized a neighbourhood bingo game that encouraged neighbours to explore their area and connect with one another
  • Foxhunt – after several earlier projects, a connector worked with neighbours to plan a Music in the Park event where people could gather and enjoy live music outdoors
