Create chalk art with your neighbours this May. Register to get free chalk (while supplies last).

How to join

Follow these steps to take part in the Chalk Challenge:

  1. Register online to receive free chalk (while supplies last).
  2. Gather your group and invite neighbours to plan your design and brighten your block.
  3. Choose a pick-up date and place at a Waterloo Public Library location when you register online
  4. Create your art in May — head outside and get creative, everyone’s a winner this year!

Pick up your chalk 

Once you’ve registered, it’s time to collect your supplies.

  • pick-up dates – May 1 to 7, 2026
  • locations – Waterloo Public library locations (choose your spot when you register)
  • supplies –1 chalk package for every 2 neighbours (10 neighbours = 5 packages)

Group size limits:

  • up to 10 people per standard registration
  • up to 50 people for Neighbourhood Connectors, Homes Associations or Neighbourhood Associations

Note: Chalk is free while supplies last.


Send us photos

Show off your creativity:

  • create your chalk art anytime during May
  • share photos using the QR code on your chalk package, upload them to the chalk art gallery, or email them to neighbourhoods@waterloo.ca
  • we may feature your artwork in the neighbourhood newsletter or our social media channels.
