How the tree planting program works
Before planting:
- forestry staff review your request and confirm if a tree can be planted
- species are chosen based on the site and conditions
- a new tree may not be possible if there isn’t enough space or if utilities, signs or poles are in the way
When we plant:
- planting usually happens in spring or fall
- replacement trees are planted only after the old stump is removed
- you’ll get a notice at your door on planting day that lists the species
All city trees are protected under the City Tree Bylaw.
Plant a tree in your yard

Care for new trees
Young trees need extra help to grow strong. Visit our Care for city trees page to learn how to water, mulch and protect them.
Memorial trees
The city does not offer a memorial tree program.
If you would like to plant a tree in memory of a loved one, please contact Parkview Cemetery and Crematorium.
