  • Staying healthy and well: a free virtual series for seniors The City of Waterloo is hosting an online wellness event, “Staying healthy and well: a virtual series for seniors”. The free weekly series covers a wide range of interests and topics to encourage good mental and physical health in our community’s seniors.
  • Waterloo.ca recognized for website excellence The City of Waterloo has earned three awards for the 2018 website refresh of Waterloo.ca: Hermes gold award for Overall Excellence in Government Website Hermes gold award for Overall Excellence in Website Redesign dotCOMM gold award in the Government category The honours came from Hermes Creative Awards and dotCOMM organizations, which recognize outstanding contributions in electronic media and digital communication.
  • Waterloo’s leaf collection program begins November 2 Waterloo residents have three options for leaf collection: bag leaves for the Region of Waterloo's biweekly yard waste collection, mulch the leaves and let them remain on the property, or rake the leaves to the curb for the City of Waterloo’s leaf collection. Waterloo’s leaf collection is for the trees on your boulevard only.

  • Greening our community together Each fall, the City of Waterloo works with local neighbourhood groups to host community planting events in different city parks. Planting native trees provides healthy habitat for pollinators and expands our urban forest, creating shade and improving water and air quality.
  • Waterloo wins CAMA Award of Excellence The City of Waterloo is pleased to announce it has won the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) Willis Award for Innovation (Over 100,000 Population Category) - Beneficial Reuse of Stormwater Management Facility Sediment – SWM Pond 53 Pilot.  Sediment disposal from stormwater management facilities (SWMF) is a growing concern for municipalities across Ontario and Canada as these facilities age and require cleaning out to maintain proper function.
  • Celebrate International Seniors’ Day, October 1, 2020 International Seniors' Day, October 1, dovetails with the World Health Organization's Decade of Healthy Ageing - 2020 to 2030 - “ten years of concerted, catalytic and collaborative action to improve the lives of older people, their families, and the communities in which they live.” Earlier this year, the Waterloo Regional Age Friendly Committee published the Celebration Project profiles of six older adults in the Region whose commitment to and involvement in the community were evidenced by their volunteer activities.
  • Applications for city boards and committees are now open until October 19 The Council of the City of Waterloo invites interested persons to apply for positions on its boards and committees. Volunteering on a committee provides an opportunity to be engaged with matters affecting the community.
  • Fire Prevention Week 2020: October 4-10 With Fire Prevention Week just around the corner, Waterloo Fire Rescue urges everyone in Waterloo to take some simple steps to prevent kitchen fires in their home. This year's theme of Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 4-10, is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen! ” The theme is very timely as cooking fires continue to be the leading cause of home fires in Ontario.
  • Waterloo cancels non-aquatic registered recreation programs Originally scheduled to start on October 4, 2020, non-aquatic registered recreation programs are cancelled in an effort to help slow COVID-19. Online registration for these programs is closed.
