A letter from Mayor Jaworsky to Waterloo students

Dear students:

For the first time in two years, Wilfrid Laurier University’s annual Homecoming weekend will include a full in-person program.

Homecoming weekend is an opportunity for alumni to celebrate their time at WLU and for some it presents an opportunity to return to our city after graduating. For current students, it’s a chance to participate in several school organized activities and to see first hand the affinity alumni have for the city and their school.

Earning a university degree is a notable accomplishment and something to be proud of. When celebrating Homecoming this weekend, I encourage all attendees to do so responsibly. Don’t do anything that harms the value of your education or that could damage your personal reputation or health.

Have a good time, attend events, such as the football game, and if you wish to continue your celebration, support our local businesses and visit one of the great restaurants and pubs in uptown Waterloo. On the evening of September 24, the city’s annual spectacular Lumen event will also be held, which is another great option for enjoying the city.

Enjoy Homecoming and remember the City of Waterloo is also your home and community.

Respectfully,

Mayor Dave Jaworsky
City of Waterloo
