A Taste of Science launches at the City of Waterloo Museum
The City of Waterloo Museum is excited to announce a new exhibition on loan from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum: A Taste of Science.
What: A Taste of Science
Where: City of Waterloo Museum, located at Conestoga Mall (near the food court)
When: November 19, 2019 to March 20, 2020
A Taste of Science is an interactive exhibition that engages all your senses. The exhibition will highlight the role science plays in delaying food decay and keeping food nutritious and safe for us to eat. This bilingual exhibition is suitable for all ages and offers menu items for both the mind and the imagination.
The main reason for preserving food is to prevent spoilage and to store excess harvest to make it last for several months. The development of food preservation methods is almost as old as human civilization itself. Every country and culture across the world has adopted a way of food preservation, which the museum will explore, demonstrating some of the methods still practiced today.
In the exhibition, children and adults can immerse themselves in an oversize pantry, learn different food preservation techniques, discover what makes food spoil, and for the courageous you can even smell different types of food that have spoiled.
A Taste of Science is part of the CAFM’s five-year commitment, launched in May 2013, to promote food literacy programs. Additional support from partners such as Nestlé Canada, the Government of Canada, and Bernardin Ltd. has enabled the museum to bring this new exhibition and food literacy programs to audiences in the national capital region and across Canada.
