A warm welcome to all students!

The City of Waterloo extends a warm and neighbourly welcome to all new and returning students at Conestoga College, University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University as they begin or continue their post-secondary education this fall, right here in Waterloo.

“We’re excited to welcome students back to the city for in-person learning at these top institutions, and want them to know they’ve made the right choice,” says Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky. “With the return of events, including the Lumen festival later this month, it’s a great chance for students to get to know all our city has to offer, and get involved. I encourage all students to get to know their neighbours and enjoy their new home.”

City staff continue to collaborate with the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, Conestoga College, Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union, Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association, Conestoga Students Inc, Waterloo Regional Police Services, Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services and Region of Waterloo Public Health, to welcome students to Waterloo.

This collaboration provides opportunities to share information about rental housing support, parking, noise bylaws and property standards, as well as fire and life safety, highlighted with Waterloo Fest in Uptown Public Square on Thursday, September 8 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The City of Waterloo website remains the primary source of information about parking, noise and other bylaws and rental housing support, as well as fire and life safety. The schools, community partners and agencies will also ensure students have the information they need to be safe and responsible.

The City of Waterloo will primarily use the @CityWaterloo Instagram account to communicate with students. Throughout September, there will be posts to welcome students to the community and to share about things to do, making social connections, neighbourliness, fire safety, bylaws, active transportation, jobs and volunteer opportunities.

A New Students in Waterloo guide is now available, which conveniently lists neighbourhood resources all in one place.
