Amplify Culture Summit explores possibilities in art and technology

(Waterloo, Ont. – Oct. 2, 2018) Challenging thinking, networking with peers and nurturing new ideas are the goals behind Amplify 2018, Waterloo region’s culture summit.

What: Amplify
When: Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018
Where: Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), 67 Erb St. W., Waterloo

The Amplify Culture Summit showcases innovative projects happening locally and throughout North America and connects the researchers, artists, designers, and creative industry workers developing cutting-edge ideas in art and technology.

“Creativity is an essential part of our community’s success,” says Justin McFadden, executive director of economic development for the City of Waterloo. “The Amplify culture summit is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the amazing work being done locally and to be inspired by stories from other communities.”

Throughout the day, attendees will be treated to a lineup of inspiring presenters including composer, percussionist, visual artist, researcher, and educator, Jesse Stewart; Sage Paul, founding collective member and Artistic Director of Indigenous Fashion Week Toronto; and, Christine Leu, co-founder of the multi-disciplinary arts and curation practice LeuWebb Projects in Toronto. The day also includes peer-to-peer sessions, which explore the themes of belonging, innovation and placemaking.

The event will wrap up with notable keynote speaker Richard Evans, a lead facilitator for EmcArts, who will speak on the widespread changes in how people want to engage with artistic experiences and how artists, organizations, and communities can redefine our roles in this new era of engagement.

Amplify is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased online.
