Black History Month

City statement: Black History Month

In February, the City observes Black History Month, a national recognition of the vital contributions of African, Black and Caribbean Canadians, both now and in the past, while acknowledging the adversities these communities continue to face.

The theme for this year’s Black History Month is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. We encourage everyone to take the time to learn more and celebrate Black excellence this month and beyond by learning about noteworthy Black Canadians and supporting local Black-owned businesses. The Caribbean Canadian Association of Waterloo Region also has an events calendar which will be updated throughout the month with community events.
