City of Waterloo and Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters' Association receive arbitration award

The City of Waterloo has received an arbitration award as an outcome of the interest arbitration process with the Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (WPFFA). The new contract covers January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022 and includes wage increases and some enhancements to benefits and provides a total salary increase of 9.8 per cent over the five years.

The salary increase, contract duration and benefit enhancements are consistent with what has been arbitrated with fire services in neighbouring municipalities.

“Waterloo Fire Rescue is made up of dedicated members who provide an invaluable service and we appreciate their commitment and contributions to our community,” said Mayor Dave Jaworsky. “My thanks to the firefighting and prevention teams for their ongoing efforts.”

In 2018, Waterloo fire rescue and prevention services responded to 5,907 emergency calls, including 434 rescues. Waterloo Fire Rescue also undertook risk reduction activities including 918 fire code inspections, provided 120 fire safety plan reviews, and made 688 visits to local schools, universities, and public events spreading the word about fire safety in the home.
