City of Waterloo celebrates public works with Service Centre Open House on June 8, 2024
The annual Service Centre Open House taking place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, is a family-friendly event offering a special, behind-the-scenes look at city operations in the Waterloo Service Centre.
Visitors have the opportunity to get up close to city machines and equipment while meeting the staff who operate them.
Event features include:
- Equipment rides on dump trucks, diggers and excavators.
- Face painting, games and other family-friendly activities.
- Free helmet fittings and a colouring contest with a chance to win a free bike.
- Charity barbecue (cash only) with proceeds supporting National Service Dogs.
“The Service Centre Open House is something families look forward to every year,” shares Mayor Dorothy McCabe. “It’s an opportunity to shine a light on the people who take good care of city spaces and assets, making Waterloo the beautiful and vibrant place that it is.”
The Service Centre Open House, now in its 29th year, often takes place around National Public Works Week, an ideal time to showcase the impacts of public works. This year, the theme is “advancing quality of life for all”, which shines a light on how city staff impacts daily life, whether through fixing roads, taking care of trees, or maintaining trails, facilities and other city spaces.
