Extension of Platinum Drive set for spring construction

The construction of the Platinum Drive extension from Copper Street to Columbia Street West will begin this spring, with completion expected by the end of the year. The extension of this road is an integral part of the development of west side employment lands, which consists of 45 hectares (112 acres) and will be home to future employment opportunities. Council approved spending $8.2 million on the road. The west side employment lands, located east of Wilmot Line, bounded by Erb Street West and Columbia Street West are city-owned could be home to up to 8,500 jobs in the future.

New eight storey mixed-use development in Uptown Waterloo
Council has approved a new eight-storey mixed use building, containing 34 residential units as well as commercial space. You can see a rendering on the city’s website.

The redevelopment would occur at the northeast corner of King Street South and George Street at the eastern edge of Uptown Waterloo, on the current site of Your Neighbourhood Credit Union. The redevelopment plan also includes enabling a future pedestrian walkway connection between Heritage Green and the Regional Pumping Station as envisioned by the Uptown Public Realm Strategy.
