City of Waterloo council summary (7)

The council summary below provides a snapshot of the major items presented at Monday evening’s council meeting. Please refer to the minutes for an official record of the meeting.

Administrative Monetary Penalty System Hearing Officer Appointments
In support of the city’s new Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS), Council has approved the appointment of two hearing officers. The appointments of Susan Campbell and Ben Drory will run until November 2022. AMPS is the city’s new adjudication process for parking notices, previously referred to as parking tickets. AMPS moves parking disputes out of the court system and gives municipalities the discretion to resolve penalty notices at a screening review. A person who disagrees with the decision of the screening officer can request a hearing before a hearing officer.

The new system will be more efficient, user friendly and less intimidating. AMPS will maintain the fundamental principles of justice and due process.
