The council summary below provides a snapshot of the major items presented at this evening’s council meeting. Please refer to the minutes for an official record of the meeting.
Municipal Ombudsman Annual Report
Council received a copy of the 2017-2018 Ombudsman Annual Report.
Drinking water quality management system – management review and operation plan update
Following a required annual review and inspection, the City of Waterloo received a 100 per cent rating for its drinking water distribution, following an unannounced inspection by the Ministry of the Environment Conservation & Parks in November 2017 and June 2018. Overall no deficiencies were identified.
2018 Northdale/IBM Smarter Cities Update
Council received an update on the city’s progress against the Northdale/IBM Smarter Cities report. The report was first approved by Council in 2012, and it recommended a vision that Northdale become a diverse, vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood, integrated with educational, residential, commercial, heritage and recreational functions, with improved open space, pedestrian cycling and transit networks by 2031. Among the accomplishments: the city is engaged with community partners and stakeholders on studying the feasibility of a community hub at the current Waterloo Collegiate Institute site; steadily increasing the amount of parkland in the neighbourhood through the purchase of six properties; and the development of a Northdale Streetscape master plan and environmental assessment; to name a few. Work continues to implement other aspects of the plan.
